SOA filling the Gaps

My prediction as posted in ebizQ SOA Forum: The most promising area in SOA developments in 2011 could be Services for Social Networks . I would expect SOA related key developments in Business Process Management (BPM) , Business Intelligence (BI) and Case Management. I doubt if we will see key developments in SOA related to Cloud Computing in 2011. As far as Cloud Computing is concerned, we may see Service Oriented Infrastructure (SOI) related developments, which will also be related to Virtualization . Unfortunately, failure rates of IT projects are high, and more unfortunately SOA endevours failures rates are even higher. will 2011 be the year in which SOA endevours rates fall gradually? I am not sure it will.

--> I am not a fan of current e-mail offerings. It is full of Spam , Viruses, Worms and Phishing and the messages capacity is permanently growing. Some of the limitations should and could overcome by technical improvements by e-mail vendors and by different approaches by Internet Service Providers (ISPs). For example, ISPs can eliminate messages including Viruses, Worms or Phising with no additional charge. Other limitations are inherent. For example, Spam filtering by Anti-Spam is done by usage of statistical indicators and will never be 100% accurate. In an article I wrote few years ago, I pointed at the similarity between Signal Detection theory and Spam filtering: both are based on statistics (usually on Bayesian algorithms) and assign different weights to different error types. I recently read EbizQ 's SOA Market Pulse a global SOA survey done by the company via internet published on January 2008 and sponsored by IBM . The survey is not a scientific survey, because the sample may be biased. However, Major SOA Trends are probably reflected. I would suspect that more refined findings are not accurate. The most interesting findings in my opinion are: Current State Finding: Almost half of the participants have any SOA implementation and another third have plans to implement SOA. My Take : SOA is Mainstream but not yet implemented in most enterprises. (Similar finding of 48% was found in the on the spot Israeli survey done in STKI Summit). SOA Efforts Finding: Most of the companies build "Islands of SOA": Multiple SOA initiatives with multiple teams and no centralized control.
