Is it Viable?

As a Independent IT Consultant I often used Analysts Groups Services.

I read Research Notes written by Gartner Inc., Forrester, IDC, Meta Group, GIGA Group etc. and I asked them questions behalf of my clients.

On 1998 my customer and me, as a CTO, tried to select a proper Enterprise IDE.

The headline describes exactly what i asked Gartner Inc. about one of the products in our list in order to decide whether it is a candidate to be included in our short list.

As usual I included a background description in my Query.

I received a one word written answer: Yes.

I thought that the answer was not good enough.

The Analyst had to take into consideration the question:

Why I asked the question on one software product and I did not ask the same question on any other of the other ten products

The reason for asking was information about the horrible financial situation of the company which developed this software product.

Selecting a strategic and expensive software product, which may disappear in 2 or 3 years is not a good idea.

Second Round of sending a query

I wrote to Gartner that the answer was not good enough.

This time I explained why I asked the question  on this specific product.

This time I received a satisfactory answer and I decided to avoid of including the product in The Short List.

Who is to be blamed for the First Round answer?

Frankly, I had to be blamed and not the analyst.

I should add to the question the reason for asking it only on this specific Software product.

Lessons Learned about AI in 2025

The reason for writing this post is closely related to the Artificial Intelligence usage by many Dummies.

They ask the wrong questions and expect the AI Software to give them good answers

This is one of the issues I raise in my lecture on AI Risks.

Unlike me they do not drill down with additional questions.

Unlike me they accept any answer as the ultimate answer.
